Failed to extract the Reporting Services webpart cab file in SQL Server 2012 SP1

When I decided to use a Report Viewer Web Part inside SharePoint page to show a native mode reporting service report.but unfortunately, I could not find the Report Explorer and Report Viewer web part that I thought it should be exist as shown below :

In SharePoint, the Report Viewer and Report Explorer WebParts are not installed by default,

To install and configure the Reporting Service web part you should follow the mentioned steps below:

  • Install “SPViewer.dwp that exists within “ that located in this path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Reporting Services\
  • Copy this file to a local temp folder in SharePoint server.
  • Open SharePoint Management Shell as Administrator.

Run CA as Adminstrator

  • Install “” via thefollowingg cmdlet.
Install-SPWebPartPack -LiteralPath "C:\Temp\" -GlobalInstall

During executing the previous cmdlet, I got the following error !

Failed to extract the cab file in the solution

To overcome this issue,

  • Copy the same file from another environment that running a Reporting Service with SQL server 2008 R2 that locateed in the following path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Reporting Services\
  • Drop this file to a local temp folder in the destination server that have a Reporting Service with SQL 2012 SP1.
  • Again, try to run the previous cmdlet via SharePoint Management Shell.
Install-SPWebPartPack -LiteralPath "C:\Temp\" -GlobalInstall
  • This should be now worked properly.

  • Go back to edit the SharePoint page > Add a webpart > Miscellaneous section > you should now discovered the new following two report web part:
    • Report Viewer.
    • Report Explorer.

In next section I will elaborate How to configure the Report URL within the Report Viewer following the mentioned instructions below :

  • While the page is in edit mode, click Edit Web Part in the Report Viewer Web Part.
  •  In Report Manager URL, type a URL to a Report Manager instance that is associated with the native mode report server that you want to access.
  • In Report Path, specify a forward slash, followed by the folder path, and the report name. Do not include the server name or Report Manager virtual directory.
    • For example to open the ‘Company Sales’ report in the Adventure Works folder specify /Adventure Works/Company Sales.
    • Another example where the report ‘Products’ is in the report server root folder /Products.

Enjoy 🙂
