SSRS Error – Maximum request length exceeded

In this article, I will be fixing the below SSRS error

SQL Server Reporting Service Error – Maximum request length exceeded

Scenario

In SSRS 2008, when I tried to upload a report with size larger than 4 Mb to Report Manager Folder, but I got the below error

Maximumrequestlenghtexceeded
Cause

This problem occurs because the uploaded report is larger than 4 Mb,

The default value of the property MaxRequestLength is 4 Mb.

Solution

To set “MaxRequestLength“, you should do the following:

  • Go to Web.config of the ReportManager that located on the following path
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ MSRS10_50.SQLInstance\
Reporting Services\ReportManager

ReportManagerPath

  • Edit Web.config with any appropriate IDE as Visual Studio or Notepad.
  • Search for “httpruntime” tag.
  • Add “maxRequestLength” and set it to appropriate limit (KB) based on your requirements.

maxrequestlength

  • Save & Close.
  • Again, Go to Web.config of the ReportServer that located on the following path:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ MSRS10_50.SQLInstance\
Reporting Services\ReportServer

ReportServerPath

  • Edit Web.config with any appropriate IDE as Visual Studio or Notepad.
  • Search for “httpruntime” tag
  • Add “maxRequestLength” and set it to the appropriate limit based on your requirements. In my case, the report size is a 5 Mb.

maxrequestlength

The report should now be uploaded successfully.
