Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 encountered an error during setup

During installing SharePoint Server 2013 with Service Pack 1 on Windows Server 2012 R2 using Hyper-V Manager, I got the following error :

Cause:

As default settings of Hyper-V, The assigned number of virtual processors for SharePoint VM is one virtual processor that should be more that one virtual processor to can install SharePoint properly.

Hyper V settings - devoworx

Solution :

To can install SharePoint on any type of VM like Hyper-V or VMware. you must set more than one virtual processor based on Host CPU capabilities.

To Check and increase the number of Virtual processors that has been used in your VM follow the mentioned steps below :

In case of using Hyper-V:

  • Go to Hyper-V Manager Home Page.
  • Select the SharePoint VM > From Right side > Below Actions > Click on Settings.

  • From left side > Below Hardware > Click On Processor to check the number of virtual processors that was disabled.

  • Stop the SharePoint VM to can edit the Hardware Settings > Repeat the previous steps to increase the number of virtual processors that should now be enabled > Based on Host CPU capabilities, set the number of virtual processors that must be more than one virtual processor.

  • Run the VM again > Try to Install SharePoint again that should now be installed properly.

In case of Using Vmware

  • Make sure that the VM  stopped to can edit its settings.
  • Go to Vmware Home Page > Edit Virtual machine settings.

  • In Hardware Tab > Select Processors that should be enabled > Based on the CPU capabilities, set the number of processors and the core per processors that must be more than one processor.

  • Run the VM again > Try to Install SharePoint again that should now be installed properly.
