Missing Data Connection Library In SharePoint

In this hint,  I will elaborate How to show the missing Data Connection Library In SharePoint?

Scenario:
If you are working on InfoPath or Excel Services in SharePoint, you will need to use a Data Connection Library to save your external connection files like a “udcx” file.
But sometimes, when you tried to add a new Data Connection Library you may miss it in Add an App Page.

  1. You are using a SharePoint Foundation or Standard Edition.
  2. You are using a SharePoint Enterprise Edition, but SharePoint Server Enterprise Site feature is not activated.
  3. You are using a SharePoint Enterprise Edition, SharePoint Server Enterprise Site feature is activated but you are still missing Data Connection Library.

Solution:

(1) You are using a SharePoint Foundation or Standard Edition.

  • Data Connection Library is not included in SharePoint Foundation. meanwhile, you can use it in Search Server Express but this will require having
    • Independent Search Server in your SharePoint foundation farm.
    • Install and Enable DataconnectionLibrary via Powershell as the following.
Install-SPFeature DataconnectionLibrary
Install-SPFeature DataconnectionLibraryStapling
Enable-SPFeature DataConnectionLibrary -url http://siteurl

(2) You are using a SharePoint Enterprise Edition, but SharePoint Server Enterprise Site feature is not activated.

  • Go to site setting > Site Action > Manage Site Features.

  • Activate SharePoint Server Enterprise Site features.

  • Go back to add an app > search for data connection > The Data Connection Library should be now shown.

(3) You are using a SharePoint Enterprise Edition, SharePoint Server Enterprise Site feature is activated but you are still missing Data Connection Library.

  • This is a rare situation, but sometimes after you activate SharePoint Server Enterprise Site features, you still didn’t get the Data Connection Library.
  • In this case, just run the following command in SharePoint Management Shell.
Install-SPFeature DataconnectionLibrary
Install-SPFeature DataconnectionLibraryStapling
Enable-SPFeature DataConnectionLibrary -url http://siteurl
