Missing the “ADD TASK – EDIT LIST” Options in the Project Summary Web Part

Why the “ADD TASK and EDIT LIST” options are missing in the Project Summary Web Part in Project Server?


Scenario

In Project Server 2013, I have a Project Site with the default Project Summary web Part,

In some project sites, I can find the option of “ADD TASK & EDIT LIST” as shown below:

But in other Project sites, I can’t find these options!

Cause

You should be aware of

The “ADD TASK & EDIT LIST” options in the Project Summary Web Part are only available in the following cases:

  • The current Project Type is SharePoint Task List.
  • The current Task list has at least one item.
  • The Primary Task list is a custom Task List.
  • The Project is deleted but its connected SharePoint Project site still exist.

The current Project Type is SharePoint Task List.

The “ADD TASK & EDIT LIST” options in the Project Summary Web Part are available for the “SharePoint Task List” projects.

Note: The “ADD TASK & EDIT LIST” options are not available with the “Enterprise Project“.

This is because of the “Enterprise Project” Tasks mut be added through

  • The Project Scheudle Page Detail Page.

  • The Microsoft Project.

The current Task list has at least one item.

Although the current project type is “SharePoint Task List, you will not find “ADD TASK & EDIT LIST” options, because the Task List must have at least one task.

The Primary Task list is a custom Task List.

Although the current Project Type is “Enterprise Project“, you can find the  “ADD TASK & EDIT LIST” options only in case the Primary task list is a custom Task List (new task list that created manually) not the default Task List that associated to the Project Schedule.

Project Summary Web Part settings


The Project is deleted but its connected SharePoint Project site still exist.

In case, the current project is “Enterprise Project and it has been deleted but its connected Project site still exists, in this case, you will find the “ADD TASK & EDIT LIST” options because the current Primary Task list in the Project Summary Web Part is now not connected to the project schedule that already deleted with the deleted project.
