How to Migrate from Project Server 2013 to Project Server 2016 Step By Step?

Prerequisites

Before we get started, you should check the below Project Server 2016 Migration Prerequisites.

In Source Farm,
  • Make sure that the current Project Server 2013 farm is at least patched to Service Pack1.

To get the latest SharePoint Cumulative Update installed check Find farm patch level / latest cumulative update that has been installed on SharePoint farm

  • Specify the Web Application content databases.
  • Specify the PWA instance with its ‘Project Web App‘ database.
  • Take a full database backup for the PWA instance database.
  • Take a full database backup for the Project content databases.
In Destination Farm,
  • Prepare Project Server 2016 farm.
  • Take a full database backup from the Content Database.

Note: In Project Server 2016, a single database (SharePoint Content Database) holds the project data and the content to facilitate the database operations, such as backup and restore, migration, etc.

Project Server 2016: Can’t change the Site Title in Seattle Master Page

In this article, I will talk about the below bug in Project Server 2016.

The Site Title can not be changed in Seattle Master Page in Project Server 2016.


Scenario

By default in Project Server 2016, the assigned Master Page for the PWA Instance is Seattle with Home word as a Site Title.

The Site Title is not changed in Seattle Master Page in Project Server 2016. 177

So I have tried to change the PWA Site Title through

  • Site Settings > Look and Feel > Title, Description and Logo.

But unfortunately, The new Site Title is not changed as shown below:

Cause

Actually, I didn’t face this issue before in Project Server 2013 with Seattle Master Page, and I think it’s a bug in Project Server 2016. So I raised this bug in Project User Voice.

[Bug] The Site Title can not be changed in Seattle Master Page in Project Server 2016

Please don’t forget to upvote this voice to get this issue solved as soon as possible!

By the way, The farm has been updated with the latest Cumulative update (Sept 2017) for SharePoint 2016 and looks like the issue still not solved!
